A group of Design | Media Arts students came to Boelter to visit Leonard
Kleinrock and celebrate the Internet's (the first APRANET message, between
UCLA and Stanford) birthday. They carried still and video cameras.
Were connected by yarn. And brought cake. Kleinrock showed them an IMP.
They said fun things like, when we suggested an alternate route to
Kleinrock's office, "the internet thanks you";
when trying to get through the doorway with their yarn interconnect,
"the web is complicated";
and when trying to move down the hallway, "the internet is slow".
They also asked us, "want to connect to the internet?", but we did as good
south campus grad students would do and returned to our lab. While returning,
we considered destroying the internet with a barrage of Microsoft Research
darts. |
